The pace of the world we live in is getting faster and faster. It’s not surprising that many people feel overwhelmed with the demands of their lives. More and more people suffer from stress, depression, and anxiety. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy. It gives you a chance to take a step back, look at your life and gain perspective. It enables you to manage your problems by recognising how your thoughts are affecting your feelings and behaviour. By breaking down problems into smaller parts, it makes them easier to overcome.
CBT focuses on life in the ‘here and now’ and helps to develop awareness on how past events may have shaped thoughts and behaviours. Often ideas and behaviours served a purpose at one stage in life, but now are no longer helpful. CBT helps to change these unhelpful patterns and enhance your life as a result. It helps people to develop more accepting and flexible beliefs. CBT helps you to identify your choices and what you need to do to move forwards with your life. By generating important life skills and a revitalised sense of self, it can help individuals to resume their hidden potential.
CBT has become one of the most popular forms of talking therapy. It is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for common mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. CBT has been tried and tested in numerous scientific studies. Research shows it is a highly effective treatment for overcoming emotional problems.
CBT is an effective treatment for:
- depression/low mood
- eating disorders
- panic disorder
- relationship problems
- social anxiety
Reiki is Japanese for ‘universal life energy’ and describes an energy healing treatment. Reiki promotes wellbeing. It helps the individual emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually. It brings feelings of peace, centeredness and an ability to cope better with the challenges of life. It is used to unblock energy that gets stuck in the body. When the energy flows uninterrupted, we experience balance and harmony.
During a Reiki treatment I place my hands near (not on) your body and use a series of techniques to move energy within the body. During this process people may feel pleasant sensations of heat or tingling, or experience seeing colours or simply experience a deep relaxation.
Reiki is suitable for people of all ages. It cannot be used to diagnose any ailments, but can be used alongside other treatments to help promote the body’s natural self- healing ability. The relaxing nature of Reiki can be very helpful during difficult times in our lives. It is a great treatment for spiritual growth, as it connects the individual with their true essence.
Reiki can be use alongside other healing methods and I offer combination sessions of Indian head massage and Reiki.
Beyond the physical body are interconnecting layers of energy; these make up the bio field otherwise known as aura. The bio field is a fusion of two forms of energy: one radiating from space and the other emanating from the earth. These energies flow vertically through the body meeting at energy centres called chakras. To heal is to bring the chakras into alignment and balance.
All ailments are encoded in the bio field in the form of energy blockages and disturbances. These may have arisen suddenly as a result of physical, mental or emotional trauma or over a period of time through holding on to negative thought patterns or emotions. When these blockages are dispersed and the energy flow restored, healing is carried throughout the body, down to the cellular level.
As a bi-aura practitioner, I am trained to locate imbalances in the energy system, using a series of hand movement. This is followed by cleansing blockages in each chakra and the bio field; and a series of techniques to balance the whole energy system. During this process the energy vibration is raised, making it possible to remove blocked energy and attract energy to deficient areas.
The treatment is partly standing, allowing full access to all chakras; and partly lying down. There is little to no physical contact, and you may be aware of various sensations such as heat, cold, tingling or feelings of lightness, none of which are unpleasant or long lasting. After the treatment people report an immediate sense of lightness, as if a weight has been lifted from their shoulders, an inner sense of wellbeing and a deep relaxation.
Indian head massage is an ancient therapeutic treatment from India. It is focused on the upper back, shoulders, neck as well as the scalp. It is a deep massage, which uses a variety of pressure and techniques that cleanse mind, body and spirit. By focusing on the upper 3 chakras, it encourages healing and brings the energy of the whole body into balance. I incorporate techniques of the ayurvedic seated acupressure, which promotes general wellbeing. During this process Marma points are being stimulated, activating the body’s self-healing mechanisms.
